Objectives: To determine the methods of
meaningful communication between humans and exotic cats (exotics) and
attempt to characterize some of that communication.
Design: Observational study. Setting: Tiger Touch of Fallon, Nevada, and Thunderhawk Big Cat Rescue of Cocoa, Florida. Results: Inconclusive due to the vast nature of communication between humans and exotics. Communication not only occurred on perceptible levels, but on levels which defy common perception. Conclusions: Exotic cats are willing and able to communicate with humans; however, there are many cultural and species barriers that make this communication inaccessible without further knowledge. More research is needed to understand some of the intangible communication methods used by both species in their interactions. |
